Cost Calculator

Roughly What Will This Cost?

Pick your platforms, a rough screen count and the features you already know you need. You get an indicative sterling range and a delivery window straight away. Nothing is sent anywhere and no email is required to see it.

1. Which platforms?

Doing both mobile platforms together costs noticeably less than twice one, and the calculator reflects that.

2. Roughly how many screens?

A screen is a distinct view someone can navigate to. A rough count is plenty at this stage.

3. What does it need to do?

4. Anything that changes the whole build?

This runs entirely in your browser. Nothing leaves the page unless you choose to email yourself the breakdown.

    Reading the Figure

    Where the Money Actually Goes

Everyone asks about screen count. It is rarely the thing that decides the budget.

    Pushes It Up

    • Rules behind the screens — pricing tiers, approvals, permissions
    • Anything live: messaging, tracking, collaborative editing
    • Integrating with systems you do not control
    • Regulated data under the FCA, the NHS toolkit or children's services
    • Several user types who each see something different
    • Offline working that has to reconcile cleanly afterwards

    Brings It Down

    • Launching on one platform and adding the second later
    • Designs that already exist, or a deliberately plain first version
    • Proven services for payments, sign-in and notifications
    • Cutting version one to the single job it must do
    • One person on your side who can make decisions

    Not in the Figure

    • VAT, added at the prevailing rate
    • Apple and Google developer accounts
    • Cloud hosting and running costs
    • Paid third-party APIs and licences
    • Content, photography and video
    FAQ

    About This Estimate

    Do these figures include VAT?

No. Every number on this page is excluding VAT, which is added at the prevailing rate on invoices. If you are a VAT-registered UK business you will usually reclaim it, but it still affects cash flow in the month you pay, so it is worth budgeting for rather than discovering.

Why does the screen count matter less than I expected?

Because screens are cheap and rules are expensive. Twenty simple list-and-detail screens can cost less than five screens sitting on top of complicated pricing logic, approval chains or role-based permissions. The calculator weights the feature choices more heavily than the screen count for exactly that reason.

We are in a regulated sector. Why does that add so much?

Regulated work carries obligations that are real engineering rather than paperwork: audit trails that cannot be edited, retention and deletion rules, stricter access control, encryption decisions, and evidence you can hand an auditor. For FCA-regulated finance or health data under the NHS toolkit, that reliably adds effort across the whole build rather than in one place, which is why it is a multiplier here.

Can we start smaller than the number this gives us?

Almost always, and it is usually the right move. Untick the features you could live without for six months and watch the figure fall. The version you can afford to finish and put in front of real users beats the complete version that runs out of budget at eighty per cent. Reducing that first number is most of what we do on a scoping call.
